Opposition calls on gov’t to source emergency supplies of oxygen from the US/Canada, as oxygen levels run low in hospitals

by August 28th, 2021

The Opposition is calling on the government to immediately reach out to the United States and Canada, for emergency supplies of oxygen.

This as Jamaica’s sole medical oxygen supplier IGL, is experiencing challenges in meeting the demand from hospitals due to the high number of Covid-19 patients.

Speaking with Irie FM News, Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr. Morais Guy, said the oxygen supply has run low in many hospitals.

He said without emergency supplies, more patients could die and therefore Jamaica must seek assistance.

And with confirmation that the country is facing a shortage of medical oxygen, President of the Medical Association of Jamaica, MAJ, Dr. Andrew Manning, says Jamaica is in a tight situation.

Noting that the oxygen shortage will affect the country in the coming days, he says citizens must understand, that they have a part to play in ending the Covid-19 pandemic.
