Concern has been raised about the upcoming no movement days and the impact this will have, on teachers and students, who do not have internet access at home, and will need to travel to other locations, in order to do online classes.

The government has extended the no movement restrictions for another 2 weeks.

The no movement days are September 5, 6 and 7, as well as September 12, 13 and 14.

Classes for the new school year begin on Monday September 6.

This means that on the Monday and Tuesday of the next 2 weeks, teachers and students won’t be able to leave home, to access online classes elsewhere.

The issue was raised at a Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) meeting today.

Newly elected JTA President Winston Smith said the association will be seeking further dialogue with the education ministry, in a bid to find solutions to the issue.

He noted that consideration is being given to teachers and other school staff being exempted on the no movement days.
