Opposition raises concern about Jamaica’s vulnerability to the Mu variant

by September 8th, 2021

The Opposition has raised concern about Jamaica’s vulnerability to the Mu Covid-19 variant.

The Mu variant has a number of mutations that suggest it could be more resistant to vaccines.

It has been detected in over 40 countries, including St. Vincent and the Grenadines which has recorded 5 cases.

Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr.. Morais Guy told Irie Fm News that with Jamaica’s extensive tourist travel culture, transmissibility of the variant is possible.

He also expressed concern that Jamaica does not have the required equipment to test for the Mu and other variants.

Meantime, Dr. Guy said while the United States level 4 advisory for Jamaica- warning citizens against travel to the island due to a high number of Covid-19 cases is unfortunate, it may be a blessing in disguise.
