Courtni Jackson, the daughter of the late singer Karen Smith wants her mother to be remembered doing what she was renowned for, singing.

During the Wake Up Call Monday on IRIE FM, Courtni, in an interview with Clover, shared how she would like Jamaicans to remember her mom.

Singer Karen Smith died on Saturday (September 11) following a one-year battle with colon cancer.

On the weekend, Prime Minister Andrew Holness via Instagram, shared a pic of himself and Smith which he captioned, in part, “I was so deeply saddened by the passing of Jamaican vocalist, Karen Smith.”

While fellow singer Tessanne Chin on her verified IG account wrote in part, “I’m heartbroken to learn that you are no longer with us beautiful lady but I know you have returned to all. Rest well and thank you.”

Other tributes came from family, friends, and industry players, including Karl Edwards of the Live Wyaa Band, and singer Blvk Hero.

Karen Smith, who turned 61 on Monday, September 5, was a former president of the Jamaica Federation of Musicians and Affiliates Union.

She was also a member of the group ‘Pakage’ along with Patricia Edwards and Gem Myers.

Regarded as one of the most respected cabaret performers in Jamaica, Karen Smith won nine Jamaica Music Industry Awards and has shared the stage with the likes of Natalie Cole, Seal, Air Supply, Anita Baker, Ray Charles, and Harry Belafonte.

She received an Order of Distinction for her outstanding contribution to the Jamaican music industry.
