Fire at Granville Place of Safety

Two units from the Falmouth Fire Station responded to a fire at the Granville Place of Safety in Trelawny, this morning (November 13).

None of the wards was hurt in the blaze; however one of the residents had to be taken to the hospital allegedly due to an asthma attack.

Acting Assistant Superintendent at the Falmouth Fire Station, Marcia Nelson, says fire personnel received a call about 8:55 this morning that there was a fire in one of the dormitories.

She says the fire brigade and an ambulance arrived within six minutes of the call.

IRIE F-M news understands that the fire was started by one of the wards who was set-upon by other girls at the home.

It is further understood that the accused girl had to be rescued and the other girls became boisterous.

The police had to be called in to pacify the situation.
