Jamaica records 5 more Covid-19 related deaths and 537 new cases

The Health Ministry recorded 5 more Covid deaths yesterday (September 17).

The deaths occurred on September 15 and 16.

They include 2 females from St. Catherine; aged 71 and 74 years, and 3 males; a 70 year old from St Catherine, as well as 2 from St. Ann – a 71 year old and a 61 year old.

One other death is under investigation.

Meantime, 537 new cases were confirmed yesterday, pushing the tally to 79,127.

Of the new cases, 321 are females, and 216 are males.

They range in age from 6 days to 90 years.

All parishes recorded new cases.

St. Catherine had the highest with 126 followed by Kingston and St. Andrew with 107.

The positivity rate is 37.7%.

Meantime, 760 persons are in hospital, among them 94 who are severely ill, 57 who are critically ill and 154 who are moderately ill.

146 more persons have recovered pushing the tally to 50,641.

There are 26,178 active cases.
