Senate passes Sexual Harassment Protection and Prevention Act 2021

The Sexual Harassment, Protection and Prevention Act 2021, was passed in the Senate yesterday (October 1).

The bill was passed with 23 amendments.

It contains provisions for dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace, schools, correctional institutions, places of safety and medical facilities, among other places.

The legislation also requires that institutions have in place, a sexual harassment policy statement, within 12 months of its implementation.

Speaking in the Senate yesterday, Leader of Government Business Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, thanked persons who contributed to the process.

The bill will now go to the Governor General for his assent before being effected into law.
