Opposition Leader Mark Goliding says the recent spate of events including cult-like rituals and abductions, may be a result of stress being experienced due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the government’s inadequate treatment of vulnerable persons.
On Sunday, three persons were killed during a cult-like ritual, at the Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries in St. James.
Several persons including the leader of the establishment have been taken into custody.
Last week, a man reportedly abducted two girls from St. Thomas.
The girls were later found alive.
Responding to questions during a press conference this morning (October 19), Mr. Golding said it appears that such bizarre incidents are taking place, due to the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He noted that it is important that the government moves to help persons who are negatively affected by the pandemic.
Mr. Golding also underscored the importance of a more caring society.
