by November 23rd, 2021

The Jamaica College Trust says it is totally satisfied with and endorses the way the Ruel Reid matter has been handled by the Board of Jamaica College and its special committee which was appointed to deal with it.

Mr. Reid, who is before the courts in relation to controversial issues between the Education Ministry and the Caribbean Maritime University, became the subject of public discourse, following reports that he was still receiving payment as principal of JC, while he was on special leave.

He had also applied for an extension of his leave which was set to expire on November 20.

However it was announced on the weekend that he decided to demit office.

In a statement today, (November 23) the trust says it is the legal owner of Jamaica College which is recognized as a trust school.

It says, as such the trust nominates seven members of the school board including the chairman.

The trust adds that it is confident that the board examined the most appropriate options and made informed and principled decisions in the best interest of the school.

It says it continues to have complete confidence in the board and has no intention of changing, let alone, dismissing the board.
