NSWMA Preliminary Investigation Show Irregularities Involving $30 Million

by November 30th, 2021

A preliminary investigation by the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) has found irregularities involving approximately $30 million.

This was disclosed by Chairman of the NSWMA Audit Sub-committee, Norman Brown, at a press briefing last evening (November 29).

The case involves one of the authority’s subsidiaries, MPM Waste Management Limited, and is being investigated by the Major Organized Crime and Anti-corruption Agency (MOCA).

Mr. Brown said the disbursement method for funds paid out between January and March, last year, is what’s being questioned.

He noted that the issues were identified during an internal audit of MPM Limited.

Mr. Brown suggested that the internal auditing staff of the n-s-w-m-a needs to be strengthened.
