York Castle High School plunged into mourning after student dies in crash

The York Castle High School in Brown’s Town, St. Ann, has been plunged into mourning following the death of a student, last evening (December 1).

16-year-old, grade eleven student Jaina Harris Khiana, of Drax Hall in the parish, was killed in a car crash on the Ocho Rios main road, around 6:30 p.m.

Reports from the police are that Jaina was a passenger in a Volkswagen motor car travelling in a westerly direction, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided in a Toyota Wish motor car.

Speaking with Irie Fm News Principal of York Castle High, Raymond Treasure said, Jaina was a dedicated student, who served her institution well.

Mr. Treasure said, a grief counselling session was conducted this morning (December 2), for both students and staff.

He noted, that continued support will be offered to the family and students, noting that it is obvious that, it will take some time for students to recover.

Meantime, Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones, has described Jaina’s death as a disaster.

He lamented, that the teen was among 3 persons, who died in crashes on the nation’s roadways yesterday.
