by December 13th, 2021

Following an out-of-court settlement with the members of the Maytals band, the family of the legendary Frederick ‘Toots’ Hibbert said they’re moving forward with plans to keep his legacy alive.

Leba Hibbert, the daughter of the late Reggae veteran, said she’s happy that we were able to reach an amicable agreement.

Under the settlement, the estate retains full ownership of the Maytals name and trademark.

On July 15, a cease-and-desist letter was sent to the musicians by the estate of the legendary reggae singer  over the use of the Maytals name.

Music News understands that after several rounds of negotiations, the matter was resolved on December 8, which is the same day that Toots Hibbert would have celebrated his 79th birthday.

Toots passed away on September 11, 2020 at the age of 77 at the University Hospital of The West Indies from complications of COVID-19.

He and The Maytals won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album this year with ‘Got to be Tough.’
