by December 23rd, 2021

While acknowledging that there are some jitters due to the possibility of the Omicron Covid variant being in Jamaica, the Tourism Ministry is assuring that the winter season remains stable.

Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Ministry Delano Seiveright said it was inevitable that Jamaica would be affected by the Omicron variant, as well as a fourth Covid wave.

He was responding to queries from Irie FM News, after reports emerged yesterday (December 22), that a tourist who was in Jamaica at an undisclosed resort for a short period of time, recently returned to the United Kingdom and tested positive for Omicron.

Mr. Seiveright said health officials and the management of the unidentified resort have already begun contact tracing.

He pointed out that officials have not yet determined, if the visitor had Covid prior to arriving in the island or if the virus was contracted here.

He said this uncertainty has caused jitters, in some source markets.
