by December 24th, 2021

Seven people, including a district constable and a teacher were arrested, following the disruption of a plot to murder three St. James women, yesterday.

The multi-agency operation also resulted in the seizure of an assortment of guns, ammunition, and police paraphernalia.

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey explained that two of the seven people, a female teacher and a male, were taken into custody during the first operation, in Kingston 8.

DCP Bailey noted that further investigations led to another operation, during which three persons, including the district constable, were arrested on Washington Boulevard, after a red Toyota Yaris motorcar, was intercepted.

A Glock pistol was allegedly taken from the district constable.

Several more operational activities led to two men being arrested, and a Glock magazine containing 17 nine millimetre rounds, 34 5.56 cartridges, 6 nine millimetre cartridges, and a police cap, being found.

DCP Bailey explained that the interception of the car thwarted a contract to kill three women.

He noted that there are other matters under investigation, involving the people arrested.

The coordinated operations were led by officers from the counter-terrorism and organised crime branch, the national intelligence bureau, as well as the public safety and traffic enforcement branch.

The Financial Investigations Division will be brought in, to investigate the assets owned by the parties, involved in the criminal plot.
