Chief Justice Bryan Sykes said the parish courts are on track to clearing their backlog of cases within the six year target set by the Judiciary.
Speaking at a ceremony for the swearing-in of judges this morning, (January 6), Justice Sykes said while 2021 was a challenging year due to Covid-19, the court system remained resilient and continued to dispose of cases in record numbers.
He noted that the parish courts in particular had a good year, with over 90 percent of criminal and civil cases disposed of.
Justice Sykes said the Family Court is beginning to catch up, achieving over 90 percent disposal of cases.
