Parade Gardens declared a Zone of Special Operations

by January 9th, 2022

A Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) has been declared in Parade Gardens in the Kingston Central police division.

The declaration was made by Prime Minister Andrew Holness at a press conference this morning (January 9).

It follows a call from Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Peter Bunting, last week for ZOSOs to be implemented in several violence-torn communities in the corporate area.

Speaking at the press conference this morning, the Prime Minister noted that the measure will last for an initial 60 days.

Meantime, Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson said the ongoing gang violence in the Kingston Central police division has raised significant concerns.

He noted that the division averages three murders every two weeks.

The Commissioner noted that while the ZOSO focuses on Parade Gardens, several surrounding communities are impacted by the crime.
