Jamaica confirmed 1,499 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday

Jamaica recorded 1, 499 new COVID-19 cases yesterday. These push the country’s case count to 102, 505.

 

The Health and Wellness Ministry says 869 of the new cases are females and 579 are males. They range in age from one day to 98 years.

 

Kingston and St. Andrew reported the highest number of cases with 480, followed by St. Catherine with 329, and St. James with 172.

 

All parishes recorded new cases.

 

The positivity rate is 48.9%.

 

Meanwhile, 4 deaths were reported pushing the death tally to 2,499. The deceased are a 23-year-old female from Westmoreland, a 64-year-old female from St Catherine, a 97-year-old male from St. Catherine, and a 75-year-old female from KSA.

 

The Ministry says three of the deaths occurred between February and August 2021, but were only recently confirmed, while the fourth occurred on January 6, 2022.

 

A total of 310 people are hospitalized. Ten are critically ill, 40 are severely ill and 77 are moderately ill.
