by January 12th, 2022

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the new minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs will be tasked with reforming Jamaica’s laws and reviewing the country’s constitution.

Former Attorney General Marlene Malahoo Forte was sworn in as the minister of the new ministry, on Tuesday.

Speaking at the swearing in ceremony, Prime Minister Andrew Holness noted that Mrs Malahoo Forte will lead the process of Jamaica doing away with the queen, as the head of state.

Mr. Holness noted that greater effort must be put into ensuring that the country’s laws are consistent with international best practices, and treaties to which the country is signatory.

He added that the speed with which legislation is developed in the country will also need to be addressed.
