One year old dies after she was allegedly left in locked car for several hours

Tragedy unfolded in St. Elizabeth on Monday, resulting in the death of an 18-month-old child.

 

Police have not identified her, but have confirmed that the baby, the daughter of two police officers, died this morning.

 

Head of the Constabulary’s Communications Unit, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Stephanie Lindsay says the reports are that on Monday the policeman was expected to take his child to daycare, but forgot and went directly to work.

 

The baby was allegedly left in the car for several hours.

 

 

SSP Lindsay says counselling support is being provided for the parents and their colleagues.

 

 

Meantime, the Jamaica Police Federation says it will be giving the necessary support to its members in St. Elizabeth.

 

Federation Chairman, Corporal Rohan James, describes the incident resulting in the death of the child as unfortunate, saying it highlights the stress-related issues faced by police officers.

 

 

Against the background of reports that the father, was expected to transport his child to daycare, Irie FM News asked the police federation chairman if the police are allowed time to handle such domestic matters.

 

He says the federation has been lobbying the government for nurseries in police divisions.
