by January 24th, 2022

Some small poultry farmers say they have no choice, but to hike their prices, if they are to make a profit.

This as consumers brace for a ten per cent increase in the price of chicken this month end, following a recent announcement by Jamaica Broilers.

The small chicken farmers say they too are impacted by inflation, especially a continuous increase in the cost of chicken feed.

One poultry farmer in Brown’s Town St. Ann, Brandon Chambers acknowledges the financial difficulties experienced by consumers, but notes, that if farmers are to survive at this time, they must also increase their prices to match what’s happening in the sector.

He adds, that the current prices, could deter persons from becoming small poultry farmers.

Meantime, a small poultry farmer in Trelawny, Natrice Murdock laments, that while she has no choice but to increase her price, she will have to find new customers.
