Thirty firearms seized since the weekend

Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson says the constabulary seized a total of 30 firearms at the weekend.

Speaking to reporters in Stadium East where five firearms were seized today (January 24), the Commissioner noted that officers continue to be deployed across the country in intelligence based operations.

He noted that the recovery of weapons is consistent across the country.

Meantime, the five firearms, including a high-powered rifle and several rounds of ammunition which were found by the police in Stadium Gardens today, brings the total number of firearms discovered at the National Stadium East to eight..

The operation which started at 2:30 p.m. yesterday (January 23) saw the discovery of three firearms and a cache of ammunition on day one.

Head of the Crime and Security Portfolio, Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey provided an update on day two of the operation this afternoon.

DCP Bailey said while the operation is labour intensive and tedious, the officers remain committed to ridding the streets of illegal weapons.
