Opposition describes pandemic related learning loss as one of Jamaica’s greatest crises

by January 27th, 2022

Opposition Spokesman on Finance and Member of Parliament for South East St. Andrew Julian Robinson said the learning loss suffered by students due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is one of Jamaica’s greatest crises.

Thousands of students have been out of school since the emergence of the pandemic.

Speaking during a meeting of the Rotary Club of Kingston this afternoon (January 27), Mr. Robinson expressed concern about the learning loss and its impact on students.

He said addressing the issue should be on Jamaica’s main agenda, because a lack of education can lead to crime, which is another issue plaguing the country.

Mr. Robinson said a remedial programme is needed.

He suggested that the HEART Trust/NSTA review its programme offerings to facilitate students doing skills training, at a younger age, among other things.
