Health Ministry begins removal of contaminated food following flood rains

by February 4th, 2022

In the aftermath of flood rains in some parishes, the Health Ministry has begun inspection and removal procedures for contaminated food, at some establishments.

Heavy rains since Monday left sections of St Ann, St Mary, and Portland under water, with several homes and businesses flooded.

Among the affected places are stores, supermarkets, produce markets, and arcades.

Director of Environmental Health in the Health Ministry, Everton Baker explains that food affected by flood water, mud and silt are not safe for consumption.

Mr Baker says teams from the ministry have been to the affected communities, visiting places with contaminated food, and removing them.

He states that the affected citizens were given documentation that will aid in their application for redress, through insurance.

He is encouraging residents to report any incident involving suspected contaminated food, to the health ministry.
