NSSC calls for partnerships in revising school grooming policy

by February 11th, 2022

The National Secondary Students’ Council, (NSSC), is calling on the ministries of Education and Culture to partner with it, in a bid to revise the current grooming policy for schools.

The call follows reports that a male student of a high school in Trelawny was allegedly instructed to cut or lock his hair in order to attend classes.

In a statement, the NSSC said over the years, there have been several reports of students being barred from school, as a result of their hairstyles being deemed “inappropriate” by school administrators.

Speaking with Irie Fm news, president of the NSSC Jamaul Hall said the policy will highlight a standard for hair grooming across all high schools in Jamaica and allow special consideration to students of various religious and ethnic backgrounds.
