by February 16th, 2022

The government says it is far advanced in the conducting of a feasibility study on an unemployment insurance scheme.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke says the plan was recommended by a Covid-19 Economic Review Task Force.

Dr. Clarke says assessments following the emergence of the pandemic revealed that the country needed a stronger safety net.

According to the Finance Minister, the insurance would cater for the new class of vulnerable people that was created by the pandemic.

He says the programme will provide aid for citizens who suffer a sudden change in their economic status.

hE notes that the programme has proven helpful in other countries.

Dr. Clarke was speaking at a forum hosted by the Caribbean Policy Research Institute, CAPRI, yesterday (February 15).
