Health Ministry reports 8 more Covid-19 related deaths and 80 new cases

The Health Ministry is reporting 8 additional Covid-19 related deaths, pushing the death toll to 2,779.

The deaths occurred between June last year and February this year.

The deceased are 5 females and 3 males, ranging in age from 40 to 87 years.

3 are from Hanover, 2 from Kingston and St. Andrew, and one each from St. Mary, St. James and Westmoreland.

There was one more coincidental death.

Meantime, 80 new Covid cases were recorded yesterday (February 18), pushing the country’s case count to 127,516.

Of the new cases, 40 are females and 40 are males.

Their ages range from 2 months to 103 years.

Kingston and St. Andrew recorded the highest number of cases, with 15, followed by St. Catherine, with 14.

The positivity rate is 6.6 percent.

223 persons are hospitalized; 19 of them are severely ill, 6 are critically ill and 51 are moderately ill.

313 more persons have recovered from Covid, pushing the tally to 74,840.
