Port Security workers to embark on 72 hour strike

by February 21st, 2022

Port Security workers have expressed their intention to embark on a 72-hour strike starting Wednesday.

The workers have been trying to settle concerns with management about issues relating to salaries and good working conditions, among other things.

Acting president of the National Workers Union, Khurt Fletcher noted, that despite having what seemed like amicable dialogue as recently as December 2021, the concerns of workers have gone unattended by the company.

Mr. Fletcher said, the workers will withdraw labour commencing Wednesday, at 5 am, after exhausting all avenues to settle the dispute with the management, and in keeping with the labour relations and Industrial Disputes Act.

He noted, however, that the union and its members remain hopeful, that the issues outlined, can be quickly addressed, to avert the pending industrial action, which is only being undertaken as a last resort.
