JTA and Finance Ministry ink wage deal

The Jamaica Teacher’s Association JTA has signed a wage agreement with the government.

The agreement for the contract period April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 will see the teachers getting a 4 percent increase on wages and salaryrelated allowances.

Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke, while acknowledging that the increase could have been better, was grateful that an agreement was reached.

Dr Clarke says he is looking forward to working with the JTA on the restructuring of compensation for public sector workers.

Meanwhile, president of the JTA Winston Smith says he hopes that future salary deliberations will be more aligned to the fiscal realities .
