Another major public sector group is expected to ink a wage deal with the government.

Chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation, Corporal Rohan James told Irie FM News that the members voted unanimously to accept the 4 per cent offer, today (February 21).

The agreement will be signed tomorrow morning (February 22). The acceptance of the government’s offer follows months of negotiations.

Earlier today, the Finance Ministry reported that 32 public sector bargaining units have now accepted the government’s offer, which represents 90 per cent of public sector employees.

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association JTA signed its agreement this morning.

Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke while acknowledging that the increase could have been better, was grateful that an agreement was reached.

Meanwhile, President of the JTA Winston Smith says he hopes that future salary deliberations will be more aligned to the fiscal realities.
