The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the alleged assault of incarcerated entertainer Leroy Russell, otherwise called Tommy Lee Sparta.

INDECOM says it received a report from the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) advising of an allegation of assault of Tommy Lee at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre yesterday (February 21).

The incident reportedly involved Tommy Lee and at least one correctional officer.

Speaking with IRIE FM NEWS Assistant Commissioner of INDECOM, Hamish Campbell said several immediate investigative steps are to be taken.

He said Tommy Lee will be interviewed by INDECOM today.

INDECOM says it is aware of the high public interest in the case and will provide an update at the appropriate time.
