The general consensus among persons reacting to the just announced minimum wage increase is that while its not enough, its appreciated.

This morning (February 22), the Labour Ministry announced that effective April 1, the new minimum wage will be $9,000 and for Security Guards, the new rate will be $10,500 for a forty hour work week.

Long time advocate for an increase in the minimum wage, Opposition Senator Lambert Brown, welcomed it.

Meantime, President of the Jamaica Household Workers Union Shirley Pryce, said its understandable why the increase isn’t more, considering the current economic climate.

And some members of the public have expressed mixed views about the national minimum wage increase announced earlier today.

Several members of the public in the Corporate Area told Irie Fm News that while the increase is good, there are other factors to consider.

Meanwhile some persons said the increase is simply not enough.
