A study of the expenditures in the Jamaican education sector has revealed that high levels of spending have not resulted in the same level of learning outcomes.

The finding was cited during today’s (February 23) official launch of the Public Expenditure Review of the Education Sector in Jamaica.

The review was conducted by the World Bank and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

In presenting the findings, World Bank Human Development Programme Leader for the Caribbean, Timothy Johnston suggested that there is room to improve the efficiency of spending in the education sector.

He said one step includes, the re-allocation of spending across levels of education.

Mr. Johnston highlighted several recommendations for the education sector.
