Kingston Mayor says re-purposing of Ray Ray Market as car park, could alleviate parking issues in the market district

Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams says the re-purposing of the Ray Ray ground in Downtown, Kingston as a car park could help alleviate parking issues in the market district.

Sections of Ray Ray ground which is used as a market, were damaged by fire last month.

Several stalls were destroyed.

Speaking with reporters during a tour of the area on Wednesday (March 2), Mayor Williams said plans are underway to convert the market to a car park.

He added that changes are also to be made to the Oxford Market.

Meantime Head of the Kingston Western Police Division, Senior Superintendent, Michael Phipps said investigations into the recent fire at the Ray Ray Market continue.

He noted that a person of interest has been named in relation to the incident.
