The government has indicated that it will be seeking to minimize inequity in public sector compensation.

Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke said currently Jamaica has over three hundred salary grades, as opposed to only 7, in the United Kingdom.

Dr Clarke argued that for such a small country, it is absurd to have so many salary scales.

He said the current compensation system results in persons being paid different rates despite doing the same jobs.

He said the system must be adjusted to be fair.
