3 females including 3-year-old girl killed in separate road accidents, yesterday

A 3-year-old girl is among 3 females who were killed in separate motor vehicle accidents, yesterday (March 9).

The child has been identified as Shadean Martin of 9 miles, Bull Bay in St. Andrew.

The other deceased are 40-year-old Carries Smith of Content District St. Elizabeth and June Scille of Old Porus, Manchester.

Smith was killed in the latest incident in St. Elizabeth.

Reports are that about 7:15 p.m., the driver of a white Nissan motor car was travelling along the Content main road, when he lost control of the vehicle, hitting Smith who was on the embankment.

The driver fled the scene and was later held by residents, who handed him over to the police.

The 31-year-old man has been arrested on reasonable suspicion of causing Death by dangerous driving.

And Shadene was killed along the Bull Bay main road in St. Andrew at about 6:15 p.m.

Reports are that the driver of a Honda Civic motor car was driving towards St. Thomas, when Shadean allegedly ran into the path of the motor vehicle and was hit.

She died at hospital.

The driver of the motor vehicle recorded a negative reading on the breathalyzer; however, he was warned for prosecution.

And over in Manchester, Scille was killed at about 1:30pm.

It’s reported the driver of a 2017 Cobra motor cycle, who was travelling towards Clarendon, overtook a line of traffic, hitting Scille, who was crossing the roadway. She died at hospital.

The driver remains in custody as investigations have revealed that he is not the holder of a driver’s license, neither was the motor cycle registered.

The latest deaths push the number of persons killed on the nation’s roadways since the start of the year to 88.

Vice-Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones is urging citizens to exercise caution on the roadways.
