The police are reminding operators of Public Passenger Vehicles that they have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their passengers.

This, after 23-year-old Amael Clarke of Kavita Crescent in Spanish Town St. Catherine, was crushed to death along the PJ Patterson Highway yesterday evening (March 14).

Reports from the Ferry Police are that about 5:45 p.m., Clarke was standing on the step of a Toyota Coaster bus, which was travelling along the Highway towards Spanish Town, with its door open.

Clarke reportedly fell from the vehicle and was run over by the rear wheel.

Another Toyota Coaster bus which was travelling behind the vehicle, also drove over Clarke, crushing him.

Both drivers were warned for prosecution pending further investigations.

Head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary McKenzie while expressing sympathy, told IRIE FM news that the incident is an indication of the lawlessness occurring on the nation’s roadways.
