The government has committed to constructing 315 new houses, under the New Social Housing Programme, by the end of June.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the disclosure, while speaking at Friday’s handing over of a house, under the programme, in St Ann.

He said, the move is a part of the government’s aim, to provide 70, 000 housing solutions, within 5 years, and to provide assistance to 6, 300 families.

Mr Holness said, when those 315 housing solutions are completed, they will begin the construction of another 500.

While acknowledging that the programme is in need of improvements, the prime minister said, steady progress is being made.
