President of Jamaica Agricultural Society Lenworth Fulton reiterates call for removal of GCT on eggs

by March 28th, 2022

President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, Lenworth Fulton is once again calling for the removal of the General Consumption Tax (GCT) on eggs to improve affordability for Jamaicans.

Mr. Fulton told IRIE FM news that he is aware that prices have increased, due to the spike in the cost of chicken feed, among other things.

Noting that calls have been repeatedly made for the Government to stabilize egg prices, Mr. Fulton said it is important that something is done immediately to give Jamaicans relief.

He noted that there needs to be an industry-wide policy review to ensure eggs, which are known to be the cheapest form of protein, are accessible to citizens with lower incomes.

He also lamented that the high prices will affect small egg farmers.
