by March 28th, 2022

A restaurant at White Sand Beach in Rocky Point, Clarendon was gutted by fire early this morning (March 28).

Acting Public Relations Officer at the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Kerry-Gayl Forbes said two units from the May Pen Fire Station responded to the blaze at around 4 a-m.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the blaze.

This is the second fire at the restaurant in recent months.

Last December, the restaurant’s dining room was destroyed by a fire.

It was subsequently refurbished.

Meantime, firefighters have contained the fire which is blazing in a section of the Retirement Disposal site in St. James.

Western Parks and Markets, WPM Waste Management Limited said this morning (March 28), that the fire was discovered at approximately 8:00 am in the western section of the facility which is used as the ‘active cell or tipping face’.

It noted that fire fighters were in the process of extinguishing the blaze using heavy-duty equipment that was already in use at the facility.

Speaking with Irie Fm News this afternoon, Mr. Forbes noted that the fire had been contained, but said winds were hampering efforts to extinguish it.
