Music Fraternity mourns death of Reggae musician Tabby Diamond, of the legendary Reggae band Mighty Diamonds

The music fraternity is mourning the death of Reggae musician Tabby Diamond of the legendary Reggae band Mighty Diamonds.

He was one of two people shot dead along Mckinley Crescent in St. Andrew, last evening (March 29).

The other deceased has been identified as Owen Beckford.

Reports are that at about 9:42 pm, 67year-old Tabby Diamond whose real name is Donald Shaw and Beckford were among 5 persons along Mckinley Crescent when gunmen drove up and opened fire hitting them.

The five wounded persons were taken to hospital where Tabby Diamond and Beckford were pronounced dead.

The Mighty Diamonds band is known for songs such as “Pass the Kouchie”, “Right Time’ and “Have Mercy”.

Tabby Diamond, was born Donald Shaw on October 7, 1955.

He was the lead singer of the Mighty Diamonds.

The group which was formed in December 1969 in Kingston, comprised of Tabby who was lead vocalist and Harmony Vocalists Fitzroy “Bunny” Simpson and Lloyd Ferguson.

They became friends at school in the mid-1960s and were originally called the Limelight, adopting ‘Mighty Diamonds’ after Shaw’s mother started referring to them as “The Diamonds”.

Their debut album, “Right Time”, still stands as one of roots reggae’s all-time classics and “Pass the Kouchie” which was released in 1981 remains a hit today.

The official Instagram account of The Mighty Diamonds made a post this morning, confirming Tabby Diamond’s death and thanking fans for their love and support while asking for privacy.
