At least 7 arrested and 2 charged for several offences, following Joint Police/Military and TA operation, in St. Ann

by April 3rd, 2022

At least seven people were arrested in relation to various offences during a joint police / military and Transport Authority operation, in Discovery Bay, St. Ann, on Friday (April 1).

Two of the 7 have since been charged.

During the operation, 256 vehicles were stopped and checked.

Of that number, 214 vehicles were searched.

308 passengers were also searched.

This resulted in the seizure of fourteen offensive weapons, 20 cases of rum, and four plastic packages containing vegetable matter.

26 year old Tavel Henry, of Fern Grove Ocho Rios, was charged for not having a drivers licence, not having insurance coverage, and driving without a seatbelt on.

Miss Henry was granted station bail and is to appear before the St. Ann parish court on June 27.

And, 25 year old Orie Holt, of Duncans Trelawny, was charged for being armed with an offensive weapon.

Four other persons were arrested on reasonable suspicion of robbery.

They range in age from 19 to 26 years, and are from St. Catherine and Kingston.

And one St. Catherine man was taken into custody for transporting 20 boxes of rum.

His vehicle was also seized.

Meantime, during the operation, 161 breaches of the road traffic act were detected, and tickets issued accordingly.

Twenty eight summonses were issued by the Transport Authority.

These include: 8 for having excess passengers; 8 for not having insurance for the excess passengers; 5 for not having a public passenger vehicle badge; 5 for not wearing a uniform; 1 for failure to record in the log book; and, 1 for operating contrary to the terms and conditions of the road licence.

Eleven pairs of license plates were also removed by the motor vehicle examiner.
