A sub-committee of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, CARICOM, will meet with the two candidates for Commonwealth Secretary General, Baroness Patricia Scotland and Senator Kamina Johnson-Smith.
This, after a CARICOM meeting yesterday (April 6), ended without the regional grouping expressing who it will support for the Secretary General post.
In a release, CARICOM noted that heads of government met virtually in caucus yesterday and re-affirmed the obligation of member states to coordinate foreign policy as outlined in the revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.
It said its members noted the upcoming election at the June 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting and reaffirmed the turn of the Caribbean for a second term in accordance with the tradition of the Commonwealth.
The members reportedly noted that two member states of the community had nominated two eminently qualified candidates for the post and agreed that the sub-committee comprising the Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Guyana, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Jamaica will meet with the two candidates.
The CARICOMÂ statement did not indicate when the meeting would take place.
