Over 400 murders recorded

Over 400 murders have been recorded in the country to date.

According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, 405 murders were recorded as at Saturday April 9.

This is the same number of murders recorded in the corresponding period last year.

St. James recorded the highest number of murders with 71, followed by Westmoreland with 42.

And the police are reporting at least five murders, between Sunday and Monday.

These would push the overall murder tally to 410.

The murders occurred in St. Catherine, St. Andrew and St. Elizabeth.

In the latest incident this morning, a woman was shot dead at her home in Spanish Town, while her husband and son who were shot and wounded, are being treated at hospital.

Meanwhile, fifty-nine-year-old Salomie Williams, a farmer of Dry Harbour District, St. Elizabeth, was shot and killed by gunmen at her home, on Sunday.

Reports are that about 1:25 p.m., Williams was sitting on her verandah, when a motor car drove up and men alighted and opened fire hitting her.

And at about 10 am, human remains of two persons were found along Ashenheim road in St. Andrew.

Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that residents stumbled upon the bodies burnt beyond recognition, in an open lot and summoned them.

Meanwhile, over in St. Elizabeth, 28-year-old farmer Devarrue Durrant, of Braes River district, was shot dead in Carr district, new market.

Reports are that about 1:40 a.m., Durrant was sitting in a motor vehicle, when gunmen drove up and shot him several times.

The police are investigating the incidents.
