Students of York Castle High turn to online classes, as motorists embarked on second day of protest over poor roads

by April 12th, 2022

Students of the York Castle High School in Brown’s Town St. Ann, have turned to online platforms to continue their lessons, as motorists embarked on the second day of protest over poor road conditions.

School Principal, Raymon Treasure told IRIE FM news that since the roadways leading from Runaway Bay to Brown’s Town and Bamboo were blocked by protesters this morning (April 12) it would have been difficult for students to commute to school.

Noting that this was the reality for many students and staff yesterday, Mr. Treasure says the school was preparing for the online teaching and learning modality today.

Mr. Treasure explains that the COVID-19 pandemic has made it easier to reduce the impact on learning, during situations that could be disruptive.

The school’s principal notes that he will be monitoring today’s online engagements to see how the classes are going.

He also explains that there will be limited impact on students, if the protest enters a third day, as schools are scheduled for the holiday break on Thursday.

Other schools impacted by this morning’s protest include Brown’s Town Primary and High schools, St. Hilda’s Diocesan High and Fern Court High Schools.
