by April 19th, 2022

With a Flash Flood Watch still in effect for three parishes, including St. Thomas, the St. Thomas police are encouraging residents to exercise caution around large bodies of water.

The warning follows the flooding of the Hordley Cross main road between Portland and St. Thomas due to heavy rainfall.

The roadway has been rendered impassable.

Head of the St. Thomas police, Superintendent Allison Byfield is urging persons to avoid the area and use alternative routes, where possible.

St. Mary, Portland and St. Thomas have been under a Flash Flood Watch since yesterday morning (April 19).

A Flash Flood Watch means that flash flooding is possible.

The meteorological office says the advisory will remain in effect until 8 AM tomorrow.

It notes that observational data indicate, that light to moderate showers, and isolated thunderstorms, occurred mainly across eastern parishes throughout the night.
