Indecom says thorough investigation being done in killing of Denham Town man

The Independent Commission of Investigations, Indecom, has assured that a thorough, impartial and independent investigation is being conducted into the fatal shooting of a man in Denham Town in Kingston on Saturday.

Dead is 32 year old, Horaine Glenn.

It is reported that Glenn was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with members of the Jamaica Defence Force, (JDF).

Residents have been protesting the killing since the incident on Saturday.

They maintain that Glenn was an innocent man.

The residents are demanding justice.

In a release today, Indecom said a team, including its commissioner Hugh Faulkner, visited the community to address concerns of Mr. Glenn’s family members and residents.

It said Mr. Glenn’s family members, were also introduced to the assigned Indecom family liaison officer and will be provided with the additional grief counselling and victim support as required.

The commission said an update on the status of the investigation was provided

In the presence of Member of Parliament for Western Kingston, Desmond Mckenzie and Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams.

Commissioner Faulkner expressed the importance of the participation of witnesses in the process of the investigation and encouraged all witnesses to share any known information directly with Indecom.

Meantime, Indecom said the eight members of the JDF team who were on foot patrol at the time of the incident were served with section 21 notices, pursuant to the independent commission of investigations act, to furnish statements and attend the offices of the commission for interviews this week.

It added that a detailed initial account of the incident was provided by only one member of the team; it said no account has been provided by the soldier directly involved in the shooting.

Indecom further stated that the weapons of the concerned officers were processed and sealed for submission to the ballistics lab for testing.

The body of the deceased was also processed to include the swabbing of his hands, photographed and sealed in a body bag, pending a post mortem examination.

The date for the post mortem examination has not yet been confirmed.
