Search for elderly woman washed away by flood waters in Montego Bay, St. James, continues today

The search for an elderly woman who was washed away by flood waters in West Gate, Montego Bay St. James, yesterday, resumed this morning (April 20).

The search which began yesterday was called off, late last night, due to bad weather and deteriorating conditions.

Before the search was called off, the woman’s 12-year-old grand-daughter Jennel Walters, who was also washed away, was found dead.

Minister of Local Government Desmond Mckenzie, has expressed sadness at the young girl’s death.

Speaking with Irie Fm News, Public Relations Officer at the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Kerry Gayl Forbes said firefighters and other emergency response personnel are trying to locate the girl’s grandmother.

He said the car in which they were travelling has been found.

Mr. Forbes added that the rescue team has to be cautious as the flood waters are still high.
