STATIN reports employment growth of 4.8 per cent in January

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica is reporting that employment grew by 4.8 percent in January, compared to the corresponding period, last year.

Director-General at STATIN, Carol Coy, made the revelation during the quarterly press briefing, this afternoon (April).

She said there were 1.26 million persons employed in January 2022, which is 57,800 more than in January 2021.

She said the industry group ‘Real Estate and other Business Services’ accounted for the largest increase in employment, with 24.9 percent.

Ms. Coy also explained that there was a decline in the youth unemployment rate, during the period.
