by April 22nd, 2022

Yet another incident, involving a Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier, in Denham Town, Kingston, has left the community in a tense state.

However, Thursday’s incident only resulted in one person being injured, as opposed to last week, when a man, was fatally shot.

A statement from the JDF on Thursday evening said its aware of an incident involving the injury of a civilian, which occurred in the Denham Town Zone of Special Operation, ZOSO.

Details of the incident were not provided.

The JDF said it is cooperating fully with the civil authorities, even as it carries out its own internal investigations.

It further stated that because the matter may become litigious, it will not make any further comments at this time, so as not to compromise or prejudice either the external or internal investigations.

The JDF said over the past five years, it has served the Denham Town community, through the ZOSO, and remains committed to continuing this service.

It is appealing to residents to continue to cooperate with soldiers, as they work to keep citizens safe and secure.

The JDF also invited anyone with information relating to this or any other matter of a security nature to call the JDF tip line.

Meantime, both the Independent Commission of Investigations, (Indecom) and human rights lobby group, Jamaicans for Justice, have indicated that their entities will be checking on this incident, today.

Thursday’s incident comes just days after another in Denham Town, in which 32 year old, Horaine Glenn, was killed, allegedly by a JDF soldier.

The killing sparked protests and road blocks by upset residents, over multiple days.
