9 persons taken into custody; one firearm seized following operations by Clarendon police over the weekend

Nine persons were taken into custody and one firearm was seized, following operations by the Clarendon police over the weekend.

 

The operations that took place over Saturday and Sunday, resulted in five of the nine being charged.

 

The men who were picked up by the police in May Pen, Four Paths and Sandy Bay were charged with breaches of the Excise and the Road Traffic Acts, and offensive weapons, among others.

 

Head of the Clarendon Police, Senior Superintendent Glenford Miller told IRIE FM news that the operation on Saturday was aimed at raising awareness of robberies in the parish.

 

He said a number of persons have been trailed by robbers after carrying out transactions at banks.

He called on residents to be vigilant on the roads.

 

Meantime, Head of Saturday’s operation, Inspector Maylor Wallace said with the Circuit Court reopening, cronies of accused individuals tend to carry out robberies to pay lawyer fees.

 

Meantime, over two hundred persons were engaged in learning precautionary measures when carrying out transactions.

 

Inspector Wallace said the operations will continue throughout the year.
